The USCCB has purchased a *high resolution digital file of Pope Leo’s official Vatican portrait, and have been given authorization by Vatican Media to distribute this photo to the U.S. dioceses for further distribution to parishes, schools, etc. The portrait is now available on SmugMug. The image should hold up to being printed up to size 16×24. If using Pope Leo’s photo for web or digital purposes, please include the copyright: CNS photo/Lola Gomez.
In addition, the Vatican put out a more traditional portrait available here. You may download it directly from the Vatican if you have a way to print locally.
Both options, along with our bishops portraits, are available on SmugMug as a print option. Instructions on how to download can be found below:
Please note that when ordering some sizes, the website will automatically crop the photo, cutting off the top of the bishop’s mitre or even the top of his head. You can see here where the cropping tool is cutting off the top of the mitre.
This is easily fixed by using your mouse to drag the cropping frame up so the entire image is shown. It should look like this.
There are instructions on how to do this in the SmugMug gallery (https://archatl.smugmug.com/). If you have any questions, contact the Office of Communications at communications@archatl.com.
*The USCCB is continuing to negotiate with Vatican Media to get a copy of the portrait of the Pope in his white cassock released May 16. If we get access to that portrait, we will add it to this gallery.
