One of Pope Francis’ final acts before his death was to visit Rome’s Regina Coeli prison, which he had done each Holy Thursday throughout his pontificate. In his papal bull announcing the start of the 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope, Pope Francis identified ministry to the incarcerated and advocacy for more “dignified conditions” as tangible signs of hope.
In light of this special concern Pope Francis showed for the incarcerated, Sunday, December 14, 2025, has been selected as the Jubilee of Prisoners. All parishes are encouraged to observe this Jubilee in their communities.
Catholic Prison Ministries Coalition has a resource packet to help facilitate the celebration of the Jubilee of Prisoners. Click here to sign up to receive it when it becomes available in August.
