Safe Haven Sunday—May 11

  • Download PDF Version available for use with email and print distribution.

To: Pastors, clergy; parish catechetical leaders, Catholic school principals
From: The Most Reverend Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv.

Peace and all good things!

I am pleased to announce that the archdiocese will have the seventh annual Safe Haven Sunday during the weekend Masses for Good Shepherd Sunday, May 10-11.

In addition to the booklets and online resources developed for Safe Haven Sunday, parishes are invited to consider providing promotional cards (available in English and Spanish) for the following two separate online programs that help address pornography use/addiction and the wounds they cause in marriage: STRIVE and Restored Vows are both available online and free of charge; confession cards for both programs are offered for free here.

We know that the use of pornography in the home deprives its role as a safe haven and has negative effects on families across generations. It is my hope that the resources available to you on Safe Haven Sunday will both encourage and teach all individuals and families dealing with the effects of pornography that loving support is available.

Thank you for using this designated timeframe (or another that may be more fitting for your parish or school) to bring attention to this issue and to the resources available to help individuals, parents and families. Thank you as well for all you do to support strong marriages and families and the embrace of the virtue of chastity as essential for Christian discipleship and growth in holiness.

Please contact Patrick Metts, pmetts@archatl.com, with any questions and visit our website for more information and additional resources.
