Clergy Study Day with Bishop John Dolan

To: Priests
From: The Most Reverend Bernard E. Shlesinger, III

Dear Brothers in Christ,

I hope this message finds you in good health and spirit as we continue our journey of faith and service to God’s people. I am writing to personally invite and encourage you to attend our upcoming Clergy Study Day focused on the critical and timely topic of mental health in our ministry and personal lives.

This important gathering will take place on Thursday, January 30, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Chancery. My good friend, Bishop John Dolan, of the Diocese of Phoenix, will be joining us as the keynote speaker. In his talk, entitled, “Joyful Hope for Wellness,” he will share his personal experiences with mental health challenges, including the profound impact of suicide within his own family. His openness and vulnerability have inspired many and led to the establishment of a mental health ministry in his diocese that serves as a model for compassionate pastoral care.

During our study day, Bishop Dolan will:

  • Share his personal journey and reflections on mental health and loss
  • Offer insights into his diocesan mental health ministry
  • Provide practical tools and resources for addressing mental health needs within our parishes and communities

As priests, we are often called to accompany others through their moments of darkness and despair. Yet, we must also recognize the importance of caring for our own mental and emotional well-being. This study day is an opportunity for us to grow in understanding, deepen our pastoral skills and foster a supportive community among our brother priests.

I strongly encourage each of you to make this a priority in your schedule. Your presence and participation will not only enrich your ministry but also serve as a testament to our shared commitment to being shepherds who care deeply for our flocks and for one another.

Please RSVP to Amanda at ahailey@archatl.com or 678-595-9181. If you have any questions or require assistance, do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your dedication and faithful service. I look forward to gathering with you for this important day of learning and fellowship.
