To: Pastors, parochial vicars and liturgy coordinators
From: Father Rey Pineda, director, Office of Vocations
In a new effort to encourage vocational discernment, we will host the first ever “Prosit” day for altar servers. The title comes from the beginning of the Latin phrase which has traditionally been recited after the clergy and altar servers exit at the end of each Mass. The call and response phrase is a prayer in which the priest says “Prosit” which is Latin for “May it profit us.” The servers then respond, “pro omnibus et singulis” which translates to “for all and for one.” The prayer asks God to allow the grace of the sacrament and the work done to profit the salvation of souls.
We invite each parish to send two to five middle or high school altar servers to join us for the first ever Prosit celebration Saturday, September 7, at St. Jude Catholic Church. These servers should be selected by the pastor or his delegate to represent the larger community of altar servers.
The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will include a Mass with Archbishop Hartmayer, a talk given by the vocation director and activities featuring our seminarians. We should conclude at approximately 1:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Please see the attached flyer and register your altar servers here: https://calledbychrist.com/register-prosit/. For more information, contact the Office of Vocations at 404-920-7460 or vocationsatl@archatl.com.
