To: Priests
From: Bishop Bernard E. (Ned) Shlesinger, III, auxiliary bishop
Brothers in Christ,
Scripture teaches that a faithful friend is a sturdy shelter: he that has found one has found a treasure. Sirach 6:14
As priests, it is important for us to be intentional about creating fraternity so that we can share our joys and challenges of ministry. Please consider joining us on Friday, February 16, for the upcoming Clergy study Day entitled “Virtuous Friendship: Living It and Preaching it Today.” Dr. John Cuddeback, PhD, professor of philosophy at Christendom College will be our presenter and offer two talks:
Lecture #1: Aristotle, Aquinas and Aelred on Virtuous Friendship
Lecture #2: Making Friendship an Operative Principle Today
Dr. Cuddeback will explore how Christ transforms human friendships and expands it. “With the help of writings of St. Thomas and St. Aelred, Dr. Cuddeback will discuss what lies at the heart of the Christian life – friendship with God in Jesus, the Divine friend who is at work in all authentic friendships.”
Dr. John Cuddeback has taught at Christendom College for twenty-eight years. He lectures widely on topics including virtue, fatherhood, friendship and household, and his professional writings appear in various academic journals and books. His book True Friendship was republished by Ignatius Press. His blogging and free courses at LifeCraft are renowned for applying an ancient wisdom to life today.
All attendees will receive a copy of the Dr. Cuddeback’s book, “True Friendship: Where Virtue Becomes Happiness.”
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chancery. Lunch will be served. Contact Amanda Hailey at ahailey@archatl.com or 678-595-9181 to register.
I hope to see you there!
