To: Priests
From: The Most Reverend Bernard E. Shlesinger III, auxiliary bishop of Atlanta

Brothers in Christ,

Please consider attending our Summer Clergy Study Day on Thursday, August 3, featuring Fr. Scott Detisch. He will be speaking on priestly spirituality and detailing the spiritual life of a priest in three areas–A Noble Hero for Christ, A Faithful Servant with Christ and a Humble Mystic in Christ in Me. Fr. Scott believes that the importance of a vibrant inner life cannot be understated. As priests, we are called to deeper forms of prayer and more honest levels of insight into oneself. His talk will also offer practical ideas to assist us in finding the deeper streams of priestly spirituality.

It is my hope that you will find the information presented valuable in your relationship with Christ and in your ministry. The study day will take place at the Chancery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Grand Hall A and B. Please see more details below.

Fr. Scott Detisch is a priest of the Diocese of Erie, PA. He has been involved in parish ministry, theological education and priestly formation for many years. He currently serves as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Girard, PA. In addition, Fr. Detisch is an adjunct professor in systematic and sacramental theology at St. Mary Seminary in Wickliffe, Ohio. He has also published another book with Liturgical Press entitled “Being Claimed By the Eucharist We Celebrate: A Spiritual Narrative for Priests and Deacons.”

In addition to the Clergy Study Day, we will also have a brief presentation by Mr. Brendon Murphy, a history teacher at Marist, who is a committee member of both the Archbishop’s Committee for Ecumenical and Inter-religious Dialogue and the Inter-religious Dialogue Committee for the Society of Mary.  Mr. Murphy has developed an adult lecture series that focuses on Jewish-Catholic relations which has been lauded by both Jewish and Christian leaders. He has also taught classes St. Jude the Apostle and is teaching this summer at OLA. This lecture series is available to all parishes in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Lunch will be provided and all attending will receive a copy of Fr. Scott’s book.

Please RSVP to Amanda Hailey at ahailey@archatl.com or 678-595-9181.
