To: Clergy, religious brothers and sisters, principals and parish staff
From: Andy Lichtenwalner, director, Office of Evangelization and Discipleship
The Office of Evangelization and Discipleship (OED) is excited to be collaborating with Catholic Metro Sports in a more formal way to provide advocacy and formation for Catholic sports in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Allen Austin, lead for campus and young adult ministries, is now also serving as an OED liaison with Catholic Metro Sports. Along with helping develop a vision to advance sports outreach and evangelization in the archdiocese, Allen’s responsibilities in this area will include networking among leaders, parish visits and training/formation of coaches and parents.
The Catholic Church has long seen sports as a dimension of ministry to and with families and young people. We are looking forward, in collaboration with Catholic Metro Sports, the Office of Catholic Schools and our parishes and schools, to continue to advance Catholic sports as a great way to build community and to evangelize, form and support families and young people. In the coming months, Allen will be reaching out to pastors and other leaders.
Please pray for this endeavor and for all the athletes, coaches and parents. For those unfamiliar with Catholic Metro Sports, we encourage you to visit their website and learn more about the extensive services they provide to help parishes establish and run Catholic sporting programs.
