To: Pastors and all priests
From: Andy Lichtenwalner, Director, Office of Formation & Discipleship
Over the past several weeks, the Office of Formation and Discipleship has presented recommendations to assist parish catechetical leaders (PCLs) in planning for faith formation this fall in consultation with their pastors. With continued unknowns and concerns, faith formation is going to be different next year, and that is okay. One question is how to respond to the present concerns in realistic ways while taking advantage of the opportunity to engage families in a renewed way.
As a concrete means to assist parishes looking for support, OFD is offering Families Forming Disciples as a hybrid, family-focused approach to faith formation. We have discussed this approach with PCLs and now want to provide an opportunity for pastors or any priests engaged in parish faith formation to hear about the Families Forming Disciples approach, ask questions, and share feedback. PowerPoint slides are available online and lesson plans are in development in both English and Spanish.
Three different, one-hour meeting times will be offered this week for pastors and any interested priests – please plan to attend whichever day/time is best for your schedule: Wednesday July 8 at 3 p.m., Thursday July 9 at 9 a.m., or Friday July 10 at 2 p.m.
