In 2017, an estimated 1 in 8 Americans were food insecure. In real terms, this equates to 40 million Americans of all ethnic backgrounds, living in urban, suburban, and rural areas, and includes more than 12 million children.
Justice and Peace Ministries, along with the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta (FAMA), will host an Interfaith Food Security Dinner on Thursday, November 8, at the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, located at 2401 Lake Park Drive SE, Smyrna, Georgia 30080. All faith traditions are welcome.
This interfaith evening will kick off our four part event series, Food and Garden as Social Obligation. We will look at our call as people of faith to feed the hungry and how to do this in food insecurity areas.
We will gather at 6:00 p.m. for a social. Archbishop Wilton Gregory will lead a blessing over the food before dinner at 6:30 p.m. Over the course of the meal, we will listen to speakers present on food security and urban gardening.
Please click here to register. We are asking for a $10 donation to help offset the cost of the meal. Please let us know if you need financial assistance.
The remaining three gatherings in our Food and Garden as Social Obligation series will focus on sustainable gardening, growing your garden and food pantry ministry.
