To: Pastors, administrators, principals, campus ministers, parish communicators and Synod Outreach team
From: The Most Rev. Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv.
I am happy to share the archdiocesan Synod report synthesizing input from listening sessions and Synod survey responses. Please visit our Synod webpage to access the report.
One of the most important outcomes of the diocesan Synod phase is not the report, but the growth of our local church towards synodality. Becoming a church that “journeys together” is a process rather than an event. Therefore, I invite you take some time with your leadership to discern two or three concrete actions your community will take in light of the Synod report and your own local consultations. Please email those two to three next steps to synod@archatl.com by Monday, August 15. I encourage you to share both your local consultation feedback and next steps with your communities.
If your community has not hosted local listening sessions yet, that could be one of your next steps. All of the listening session guidelines are available on our resources webpage. Participation in the National Eucharistic Revival is another option to respond to the desire of our community to prioritize and share the beauty of the Eucharist with others.
Meanwhile, the Archdiocesan Synod Team will be meeting and discerning ways to support ongoing synodality at the regional and local levels. They would love to hear your suggestions or feedback. Please share what the team and I can do to support your community as you embark on your next steps. You can email synod@archatl.com.
