From: Monsignor James Schillinger, director, Ongoing Formation of Priests

Please mark your calendars for the following ongoing formation events scheduled for 2022. More details including registration information will follow closer to the event date.

Clergy Study Day – End of Life Issues
Wednesday, March 9
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Chancery
Presenter: Rev. Tadeusz Pacholczyk, PhD

What does it mean to speak of “extraordinary means” when making decisions about end of life treatments? Father Tad will discuss this important concept and how to apply it to real-world situations. We are called to exercise stewardship over our gift of life, which implies that we have a duty to preserve our life and to use it for the glory of God, even though the duty to preserve life is not absolute, and we may reject life-prolonging procedures that are insufficiently beneficial or excessively burdensome. Related topics such as living wills and artificial nutrition and hydration will also be explained and discussed.

Lenten Day of Reflection
Tuesday, April 12
Cathedral of Christ the King
Time and presenter TBD

Clergy Study Day – Restorative Justice
Tuesday, May 17
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Chancery
Presenter: Monsignor Stuart Swetland

Restorative justice is an approach to justice that emphasizes living in right relationship with all of creation. Using restorative approaches to address harm and trauma can help us to repair relationships and work toward reconciliation and forgiveness. Monsignor Stuart Swetland, president of Donnelly College in Kansas City, will speak about the connections between restorative justice and Catholic teaching. We will also look at some of the many ways restorative approaches can be useful in addressing the challenges faced in our parish communities, as well as how restorative justice can enrich the work of parish ministries.
