From: The Reverend Gerardo Ceballos-Gonzalez
Reverend Monsignors, Fathers and brothers and sisters,
As you probably are aware by now, Pope Francis has issue a new Motu Propio “Traditionis Custodes” regarding the use of the Roman Missal edited by Saint John XXIII in 1962. This Motu Propio is the result of a detailed consultation of the bishops carried out by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 2020. Please instruct the faithful in the Archdiocese of Atlanta of the following:
- The Masses celebrated according the Roman Missal edited by Saint John XXIII in 1962 are not suppressed in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, particularly at Saint Francis of Sales in Mableton, serve by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP).
- Priests residing in the Archdiocese of Atlanta that do not belong to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP), are to request in writing permission from Archbishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv., if they are to celebrate the Holy Mass publicly with the Roman Missal edited by Saint John XXIII in 1962.
As further guidance is given from the Holy See on the application of this new legislation, we will share it with the presbyterate so that you are able to answer questions that may arise among the faithful.
