November is the month dedicated for the deceased members of our families and Catholic communities. It is also a wonderful time and opportunity to promote a “Culture of Christian Burial.” This is the goal of a wonderful new free resource offered to us by the Catholic Cemetery Conference.
The goal of “Promoting a Culture of Christian Burial” is to provide catechesis through a series of comprehensive videos and educational/promotional materials for use by clergy, laity, parishes, schools, religious education directors and the like. These materials provide all serving the Church with not only what the Church teaches about its mission to care for those who have died, but also, the benefits afforded to the living as they lay loved ones to rest.
All of these resources are available, free of charge, via a dedicated website: www.catholicburialtraditions.org. Visitors to the website are asked to create a personalized login and password to access the resources. These resources can also be accessed in a more limited capacity through our pastoral care webpage without creating a login and password.
As we know, many individuals and publicized news stories seem to demonstrate a disregard for human life. This may, by extension, carry over to how the remains of our loved ones are neglected without proper care and final disposition. It is important that we work together to affect change in attitudes and thinking. Please help us in spreading the word about this important resource teach and carry out the Church’s mission about the significance of the Corporal Work of Mercy to bury the dead.
