From: The Most Reverend Bernard E. Shlesinger III, Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta
Dear Priests of the Archdiocese of Atlanta,
I wanted to make you aware of an essential ministry called P.A.T.H. (Post Abortion Treatment and Healing) which exists to serve women and men who are suffering from the guilt, pain and regret of an abortion. The Lord offers his mercy to us all in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. But often times even those who have received the sacrament still struggle to forgive themselves and face significant difficultly in life such as anger, grief, PTSD and addiction.
P.A.T.H. believes that partnering with clergy is vital to this ministry, specifically through providing resources that could be used in the confessional, as well as inviting priests to volunteer on their healing retreats.
At the Archdiocese of Atlanta, we support the mission and the work of P.A.T.H. and I hope you will take advantage of this wonderful under-utilized resource as we help those who are silently hurting.
P.A.T.H. will be sending each of you confessional cards and brochures.
For more information, please visit their website at www.healingafterabortion.org. There is a brand new “pastor page” with specific resources for clergy.
To get information about training to volunteer on a retreat, or any other general questions, please email email@example.com.
Fraternally yours is Christ,
The Most Reverend Bernard E. Shlesinger III
Auxiliary Bishop of Atlanta
