The Office of Catholic Schools proudly announces the winners of the 2020 Scholarship for Academic Excellence. This scholarship is awarded to two rising freshmen planning to attend one of our archdiocesan Catholic high schools. Applicants must be Catholic and rank in the top 15 percent of their class. The scholarships, in the amount of $350 each, are awarded to one male and one female applicant, and are renewable in the student’s sophomore year as long as he/she remains in good standing with the school. The overall value of the scholarship, therefore, is $700 per recipient.
Our female recipient is Ms. Mary Virginia Pitra of Christ the King Catholic School in Atlanta. Mary will continue her education at St. Pius X Catholic High School in the fall. She has been actively engaged in her school and church, serving in the CKS cantor choir as well as the drama recreation ministry. Mary is the daughter of Joseph and Nancy Pitra and a parishioner at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta.
Mr. Timothy Kernan of Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic School is our male recipient of the 2020 Scholarship for Academic Excellence. Timothy also looks forward to attending Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in August. He has been a two-time oratorical competition finalist and served as the archdiocesan leadership representative for his school during his seventh grade year. Timothy is the son of Rich and Peggy Kernan and is a member of Saint Brigid Church in Johns Creek.
Please join us in recognizing these two outstanding students. We offer our gratitude to the school communities of Christ the King and Saint Jude the Apostle, as well as the parishes of the Cathedral of Christ the King and St. Brigid for supporting both Mary Virginia and Timothy in their faith formation.
