The Russians claim authorship of the phrase, “The best new idea is a well forgotten old idea.” Regardless of the genesis, the spirit of the thought fits with our approach to procurement.
The Strategic Planning Committee finalized its work in 2009. Strategic Sourcing, securing significant savings in purchasing supplies and services, emerged as one of the goals. A “Smart Purchasing” subcommittee was established to review opportunities to leverage combined Archdiocese purchasing volume to reduce parish and school expenses.
In 2010, we implemented a voluntary approach to this process to ensure local sourcing considerations were applied and that all savings and benefits were confidential and remained at the local level. The results were impressive, savings in excess of $1 million were identified and harvested. The Georgia Bulletin report on the procurement project is at this link:

We are now at a time to initiate this process once again and expect to find savings in the same range. Financial Solutions Atlanta, (FSA) has been reengaged to perform the work.
Participation in this process is being offered to all parishes and schools.
FSA`s reduced fees are based on achieved/implemented recommendations that are specifically approved by local personnel.
Interested pastors, principals and business managers may contact Mike Powers, President – FSA at MTPCASH@AOL.COM for further information.
