To: Priests, Deacons, Principals and Parish Staff
From: The Most Reverend Joel M. Konzen, S.M.
I would like to thank all those parishes and schools that participated in our first annual Safe Haven Sunday event. Thank you for taking the opportunity to inform, educate, and provide resources to our parents and families about the dangers of pornography.
At present, it is our intention to continue this important initiative on a yearly basis. One weekend during Lent will be set aside to recognize Safe Haven Sunday, and to use the opportunity to equip parents, guardians, and schools with the resources needed to rid our homes and schools of this destructive scourge. We encourage all parishes in the Archdiocese to participate even if they did not do so this year.
Additionally, we would like to take this opportunity to gather feedback about this event and how the process worked. We have put together a short survey to help gather this information. Please take three minutes to complete the survey and offer us your feedback.
Lastly, I want to draw your attention to a website that was created to combat pornography. Clean Heart Online provides resources for educators, parents, strugglers, and ministry leaders. After creating a personal login, viewers are able to access a growing library of resources including videos (with Spanish subtitles) to help create a safe haven in their home. A new training for clergy and parish leaders has recently been uploaded to the site, along with a list of local mental health professionals.
Please direct any questions about this initiative or online resources to Patrick Metts at pmetts@archatl.com or 404-920-7643.
