Background Information
For the past few years, the main goal of the annual Encounter of Hispanic Ministries for the Archdiocese of Atlanta has been the call to reflect on the needs of the Hispanic community, its active participation, and to know and support our parishes in the implementation of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan.
On September 20-23, 2018, a group of delegates from our archdiocese participated in the Fifth National Encounter of Hispanic Ministries in Dallas Texas. This “four year process of ecclesial reflection and action invites all Catholics in the United States to intense missionary activity, consultation, development of leadership and identification of good ministerial practices in the spirit of the New Evangelization.” The overall goal of V Encuentro was “to discern ways in which the Church in the United States can better respond to the presence of Hispanics/Latinos, and how Latinos respond as missionary disciples to the call of the New Evangelization, serving the whole church.”
When the invitation to participate in the Fifth National Encounter of Hispanic Ministries arrived at our archdiocese, we were already in the process of implementing the Pastoral Plan, which includes reflection on the needs of our Hispanic brothers and sisters and those of other cultures.
Thus, through the Pastoral Plan, the Archdiocese of Atlanta advanced the local process of reflection proposed by the Fifth Encounter.
