Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. It is estimated that human trafficking generates billions of dollars of profit per year, second only to drug trafficking as the most profitable form of crime. It is a $290+ million illegal industry in Georgia alone.
To combat this evil, Justice and Peace Ministries in partnership with the International Human Trafficking Institute (IHTI) is offering training for anyone who would like to learn how to present on this topic in their own parish and community. You will learn how to know the signs of human trafficking in both victims and perpetrators, identify those who are at risk of being trafficked, and what to do and who to contact. You will also learn how to present this important and life-saving information to others.
We have two opportunities for you to participate in the Anti-Human Trafficking Presenter Training. The first is on Sunday, October 21, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The second is on Thursday, October 25, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Both will be held in the Terrace Halls at the Archdiocese of Atlanta Chancery, 2401 Lake Park Drive SE, Smyrna, Georgia 30080. You only need to attend one of these trainings.
