To: Priests, Deacons, Parish Marriage Leaders & Coordinators
From: Patrick Metts, Marriage, Family, and Pastoral Care Ministry; Office of Formation and Discipleship
On Saturday, September 22, 2018, the Office of Formation and Discipleship is hosting a free training for parishes interested in implementing the Witness to Love – Catholic Marriage Prep renewal ministry.
Witness to Love is a virtues-based, catechumenate model of marriage renewal and preparation that integrates modern principles of psychology and virtues to help couples facilitate an authentic dialogue about their relationship.
The key to Witness to Love is that engaged couples are invited to choose their own mentors and attend a sacramental marriage preparation workshop. Mentors must meet some basic requirements and the married couple is trained to mentor an engaged couple. Unlike other mentor models, there is no need to build trust in order for the marriage prep process to work – the trust already exists. Deep conversions, encounters with Christ, and renewal happens consistently for both mentors and the engaged couple.
Clergy members involved in marriage preparation and married couples involved in marriage preparation are encouraged to attend. The training will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Chancery of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.
Please register online by September 19, 2018 at 12:00 noon. A promotional video from Archbishop Gregory is available here.
