To: Priests
From: Monsignor James Schillinger, Director, Ongoing Formation of Priests
Please see the attached list of outstanding ongoing formation opportunities offered at three institutions we regularly partner with in our ministry of ongoing formation:
• St. Vincent de Paul Seminary, Boynton Beach, FL
• The Institute for Priests and Presbyterates at St. Meinrad Seminary & School of Theology, St. Meinrad, IN
• The Center for Continuing Formation at St. Mary Seminary and University, Baltimore, MD
As you look ahead and plan your schedule for the coming months, please seriously consider attending one of these excellent programs or workshops. As you look over these offerings, you will see programs available for priests at every stage of ministry. Whether you are newly ordained, a parochial vicar, a new or seasoned pastor, preparing for retirement, or international priest, there is an opportunity to help enrich your priestly life and ministry. Additional information on all programs is available on their respective websites.
Also, please consider attending the Priest Winter Institute at St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach, FL scheduled for January 27-February 1, 2019. The Winter Institute is a great opportunity to come together with other priests from all over the United States for a five-day seminar focusing on topics of spirituality or theology. A good number of priests from the archdiocese have attended past Winter Institutes. Spending five days in southern Florida in late January may have something to do with the program’s appeal.
Finally, please review the attached document for additional priest retreats. If you are unable to attend our own priests’ retreat (September 16-20, 2019), you may be interested in one of these options..
Ongoing Formation funding is available to all priests serving in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. If you are interested in participating in any of these programs, please submit an application. Archdiocesan clergy are eligible for up to $2,500 of funding per year and religious are eligible for $1,875 per year. A parish or ministry provides half of the costs. For the funding policy, application and procedures, please visit our website.
