Scam Alert – “Pastor” Email Asking for Money

To: Pastors, Deacons, Parish and Chancery Staff
From: Paula Gwynn Grant, Director, Office of Communications

Msgr. John Walsh, pastor of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta, recently learned of a circulating email, from a Gmail account, that appears as if he is asking for financial help.

Msgr. Walsh quickly alerted his parishioners and explained that he would never email them asking for personal financial help.

The Office of Communications shares this information with you as a warning since this kind of thing often strikes at other churches.

Please work closely with your parish information technology team to protect your parish email and other accounts. Remember to carefully follow your parish guidelines and policies while keeping your parishioners informed of any potential scams.

Thank you.
