Did you spend countless hours asking your parents to explain a question or problem you were having when you were a student? Many refugee students have parents who are trying to learn English themselves, so it is difficult to assist and help with their child’s schoolwork.
Make a difference in the life of a newly arrived refugee family by volunteering to tutor. Tutors will work in small groups of refugee students (2-3) to help with homework, assist with studying and practice English. Empower families by giving 2 hours a week to support children who are adjusting and learning in a new country! Our tutoring sessions will be held at Indian Creek Elementary School in Clarkston beginning in mid-October through the end of the school year in May, Monday through Thursday afternoons from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A volunteer commitment of one afternoon each week is needed.
Join us for a program orientation on September 19th, and stay for trainings if this is a good opportunity for you. Orientation will start at 2:00 p.m., followed by training until 5:30 p.m. Trainings will be held at Catholic Charities Atlanta’s Northlake Office, 2305 Parklake Drive, Ste. 150, Bldg. 9, Atlanta, GA 30345.
