From: Patricia DeJarnett, Liturgy Coordinator, Office for Divine Worship
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is Monday, December 12, 2016. The liturgies for this feast must be celebrated on Monday during the day, since feasts are to be celebrated within the limits of the natural day. Thus, it is inappropriate to celebrate a Vigil Mass for the feast on Sunday evening.
Sundays in Advent take precedence over all solemnities and feasts. All Masses on Sunday, December 11th must use the texts, readings, antiphons, collects, and prefaces from the Mass for that Sunday. The vestments must be either rose or violet/purple and not white.
The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe can be displayed during Sunday Masses, and the hymns, homily, and prayers of the faithful/universal prayer may also focus on Our Lady.
