To: Priests
From: Monsignor Jim Schillinger, Director, Ongoing Formation of Priests
In just one generation, we have all seen how changing demographics and an increasingly unstable social and political landscape demand a knowledge and understanding of other faith traditions.
As leaders in our parishes and communities, it is essential to develop our understanding of Islam. Therefore, the Ongoing Formation of Priests is hosting a Clergy Study Day on Islam on Monday, October 30th.
We welcome Dominican Father Joseph Alobaidi as our speaker. He will present a comparative look at religious violence in Christian and Islamic traditions, particularly in the Bible and Quran.
Father Alobaidi was ordained in 1980 and is a member of the Eastern Province Dominicans. He has taught at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., and Aquinas College in Nashville. Currently, he works in formation of Dominicans in the St. Joseph’s Province.
The Clergy Study Day on Islam will be held on Monday, October 30th from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Chancery. Lunch will be provided.
